Social and emotional learning seminar

June 08, 2009 - 09:03

A Professor of Psychology and Education at the University of Illinois, Chicago, who for a quarter of a century has been teaching scholars and practitioners around the world about innovative ways to design, implement, and evaluate family, school, and community interventions, led our London seminar on social and emotional learning.

Professor Roger Weissberg, President of CASEL (Collaborative for Academic, Social and Emotional Learning) was in London on June 8th, 2009 to explain what promotes social and emotional learning, focusing on the link between academic attainment and social and emotional competence. This was a unique opportunity to hear directly from someone whose work has been instrumental in developing proven practices and programmes used in thousands of schools and community settings around the world.
After Professor Weisberg’s contribution, The Unit staff presented a short case study describing our experience of implementing an evidence-based programme to promote social and emotional learning in schools in the UK. It was followed by questions and discussion. The seminar started at 9.30am and ran until lunch at a central London venue.
