Alice joined the lab in July 2022, following a decade building a career in both youth work and writing. She spent the pandemic supporting young carers, to ensure that they were able to have their needs met, access services for support and that their voices were heard. She facilitated an #iwill Social Action Programme for young carers and then went on to coordinate the media and communications for the charity.

Prior to joining The Lab, Alice completed a Masters in Youth and Community Work at Durham University and later she also trained as a journalist. Alice is interested in sharing stories of marginalised and vulnerable groups, particularly those affected by mental ill health, neurodivergence, young carers and those unable to access opportunities due to their socio-economic status or other barriers affecting participation. She often draws on her own lived experiences of neurodiversity.

Youth participation has been central to Alice’s practice as a youth worker. She is passionate about giving young people a platform to be involved in discussions and decision-making about the issues that matter most to them and the services they access. Alice hopes to build on previous experiences and learning to contribute to the Lab’s work to improve the wellbeing of children and young people.
